An Introduction to the Presidential Trend A Concise Narrative of One of the Largest Political Trends edition by Tony Fairfax Politics Social Sciences eBooks

I became very interested in politics at the ripe age of eighteen. It turned out that there was an election that year and I got to vote. Since that time, I have read quite a bit about Presidential elections, how they work, and their intricacies but I have yet to read anything as interesting as Tony Fairfax's "An Introduction to the Presidential Trend". This is all new information to me and, if outcomes can be predicted with this sort of accuracy, I'm simply astounded. Fairfax does a great job of explaining his theory and even gives a prediction on the next election. Simply fascinating and a must read.

An Introduction to the Presidential Trend A Concise Narrative of One of the Largest Political Trends edition by Tony Fairfax Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews

You know real insights in life are often found by those not satisfied with conventional wisdom. Case in point, Tony Fairfax's new book An Introduction to the Presidential Trend A Concise Narrative of One of the Largest Political Trends. In this book Mr. Fairfax explores an unusual trend in politics which has major ramifications for the presidential race.

The mystery is this How can one political party have a nearly straight line increase over several presidential cycles while another fluctuates normally? Conspiracy, fraud, demographics or something else? The answer may surprise you. So if you are a political junky or just a normal American who cares about the direction our country is headed, you might want to pick up Mr. Fairfax's new book. I bet you'll never look at the Presidential Trend the same way again.
Tony Fairfax starts off The Presidential Trend by postulating why is there a constant, consistent and linear trend in the Democratic party presidential nominee from 1972- 2000. Fairfax describes that 1976 was an outlier. Other key points he shows is the fluctuation in Republican party trend and variable voter turnout. Most astonishing is the steady increase for Democrats despite this variability. Fairfax has a great eye in this regard as a statistician at identifying an area of research that most social scientist overlooked due to an outlier year. In addition, Fairfax also highlights social cleavages during that time to set the political scene.
Fairfax did not fully explain the details behind 1976 election (Nixon resignation/Ford appointment). While Fairfax employed using a R-Squared test to the coefficient of determination, an F-Test could have been used as well to assess multiple coefficients and overall significance. Fairfax identifies this Presidential trend only takes place with presidential elections- not gubernatorial, county, etc; Out of this, the presidential trend is made up of two (2) major groups
1- Voters who have voted Democratic candidates previously
2- 1st time voters
Fairfax gives impeccable historical context for the conditions of the time during the 1960’s leading up to the beginning of the trend in 1972. Fairfax contradicted himself by saying that a portion of Independent voters were progressive voters, yet he coupled Independent voters with Republican voters who were classified as the conservative electorate. Fairfax also could have discussed how the shift in the mode of production from a manufacturing to high tech society impacted this trend and the battle for hegemony against Communism (Cold War) in terms of social and ideological structures played in voting trends.
Future research could look at massive reforms or shifts in the political-economic structure, Fairfax could also compare presidential electoral votes for candidates after major reforms/shifts in the political-econ landscape (1865- Reconstruction, 1964- Voting Rights Act, 2016- Post Obama Era). Fairfax also could expand his research to include trends from the 2016 Presidential Election to give insight on how the Democratic popular vote compared to the 2000 Presidential Election where both Democratic candidates won, but neither Democratic candidates won the electoral vote.

Since that time, I have read quite a bit about Presidential elections, how they work, and their intricacies but I have yet to read anything as interesting as Tony Fairfax's "An Introduction to the Presidential Trend".
